"Without a coach, people will never reach their maximum capabilities."
- Bob Nardelli, CEO of Home Depot
My Personal Mission Statement:
I have an insatiable appetite for learning, and am especially interested in personal and professional growth and development.
Those who know me best would describe me as someone who is a voracious learner, as well as a teacher, mentor, and coach.
“I am committed to helping others to reach their full potential, both personally and professionally, so that they can lead richer, more productive lives and thus build better & stronger businesses, communities, and relationships around them.”
Specifically:
Professional Background/Career:
I am a Regional Sales Director and have been in the medical/pharmaceutical industry for ~25 years. My roles as Sales Leader, Sales Excellence Coach, and Specialty Med/Pharmaceutical Sales Professional, have allowed me to blend my personal interest in the area of health science and my passion for improving the lives of others with my business acumen, selling, and leadership skills.
I have had the honor of working for excellent companies and have been able to represent terrific science. I am very fortunate to have access to some great business minds, as well as routine interaction with top medical experts.
Prior to medical sales, I had a ten-year career in higher education administration as an advisor - coaching college students. That career culminated in my role as a Director of Academic and Student Services.
Martial Arts Teaching:
I have been fascinated with martial arts since my early childhood. As a master instructor and 7th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, I have been teaching martial arts part-time for over 25 years. I teach classes on Saturday mornings.
Martial arts training and teaching has been our Hurlahe family tradition since the mid-90s with the founding of Martial Arts Centers, Inc. and the formation of several martial arts schools around the state of Michigan.
Growing up with the martial arts, and teaching thousands of students for over two decades, has made a profound impact on my life and has been a positive influence on every aspect of my personal and professional growth.
There are very few individual pursuits that are more transforming or empowering than earning a black belt in a martial art. Having played a role in teaching, coaching, and inspiring hundreds of individuals toward achieving that very goal of earning a Black Belt has been more rewarding than anything I could have ever imagined!
Volunteer & Community Service:
My volunteer and community service background includes having been elected to local political office and serving several terms as both a member of city council and as Mayor Pro-Tem, in addition to having held other leadership positions in local government.
I served six years in the United States Army Reserve, having been recognized for outstanding service (and also honorably discharged).
I work on charity fundraising to support local families in need, as well as local military veterans, by having raised/donated tens of thousands of dollars in recent years.
Personal/Family Information:
I grew up in the greater Detroit metropolitan area and have been a proud Michigan resident my entire life. I earned a Bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University and a Master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University.
I am happily married to my “college sweetheart,” Michelle. We have one son, John, who is a graduate of the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Jennifer, also live and work in the Midwest. Michelle and I are fortunate to live in the same community as our parents and enjoy spending our free time with family and friends.

“I am committed to helping others to reach their full potential, both personally and professionally, so that they can lead richer, more productive lives and thus build better & stronger businesses, communities, and relationships around them.”
Specifically:
- By teaching and coaching professional development skills for optimal career performance. Higher levels of job performance lead to the attainment of key company objectives, improving customer satisfaction, and having more productive and fulfilling careers.
- Through martial arts teaching & coaching (as well as fitness, health, and wellness) - helping people to learn self-defense skills and to improve their overall fitness and wellness as a catalyst to build confidence, esteem, & empowerment .
- By encouraging, supporting, and positively influencing family, friends, acquaintances, and those interested in pursuing personal or professional peak performance - through life-coaching (informally, not professionally).
